History
In late 2014, the unit Okappy consisting of Okai Chisato and Sawayaka Goro was formed.
In October 2014, they participated in the Artist no Yabou x Omoide Kakekko contest, run by the show NOBUNAGA, where they made and performed an original song for a chance to become the official cheer song for the "Omoide Kakekko" segment.[1] During the November 22, 2014 broadcast of NOBUNAGA, it was announced that Okappy's song "Omoide Goal" won the contest.[2]
After the successful "DARS de Bakoon!" collaboration of odottemita (dance cover) PR videos with Okai in December 2013,[3] Okappy was contacted by Morinaga DARS for a "DARS no Hi" collaboration on December 12, 2014.[4] Okappy made an original song and YouTube video, while Morinaga provided them the guitar, candies, and the outfits. In the end, two songs titled "Suteki na Chocolate" and "Ii Koto" were produced.[5][6]
In February 2015, Okappy collaborated with Morinaga DARS for a second time to promote the company's yearly "1 Choco for 1 Smile" campaign, which supports children from cacao producing countries.[7] This time Okappy and Morinaga created five CMs, including a "New Employee Edition" and a "Valentine's Edition," which were only up on YouTube between February 10 and February 16.[8]
For the 2015 DARS no Hi, Okappy collaborated with Morinaga DARS to create a video series on planning chocolate presents.[9] The videos included guest appearances by Sawayaka's Joujou Gundan partner Suzuki Keita, talento Onishi Akiko, and ANGERME member Takeuchi Akari.
On January 30, 2016, Okappy spent a day as store managers at the limited time DARS Chocolat Boutique in Omotesando Hills.[10][11] They made recommendations and autographed DARS chocolate for customers.
On March 20, 2016 at Asobu. Kurasu. Sodateru. SATOYAMA & SATOUMI e Ikou 2016, Okappy promoted the Morinaga DARS booth by performing a mini live on the PR stage.[12][13]
On August 6, 2017, Okappy made an appearance at Tokyo Idol Festival at the "℃-ute Daisuki Stage," where Okai was both MC and main act. The duo performed "Tokaikko Junjou" together.[14]
Group Name Origin
"Oka" comes from the same first kanji (岡) of Okai Chisato's and Sawayaka Goro's last names (Sawayaka's real name is Okami Tokihide). "-ppy" or "-ppi" is commonly used as a suffix to make cute-sounding nicknames.
